Next-Gen LMS Investigation:
Sonoma State University is currently in the process of investigating a new next-generation Learning Management System for its students and faculty. This current assessment by the Academic Technology and Instructional Spaces Subcommittee will include the Moodle LMS that the University is currently using and two new Learning Management Systems and vendors: Canvas by Instructure and Moodle by eThink.
The Academic Technology & Instructional Spaces Subcommittee will make a formal recommendation on whether to move forward with Instructure Canvas or Moodle hosted by eThink by the end of Spring 2018.
Sonoma State University is currently piloting Canvas by Instructure as a possible Learning Management System for the University. Canvas by Instructure is one of the current vendors that Sonoma State University is investigating. Over the past year, there has been a large increase of public institutions transitioning to Canvas, this includes CSU Sacramento, CSU Humboldt, CSU Northridge & all 114 California Community Colleges. For more information please go to http://www.canvaslms.com.
The current pilot consists of 16 professors and courses, with over 400 students in a variety of course subjects and departments.
If you are a current Sonoma State faculty member interested in creating a "Sandbox," a virtual space where you can test and experience Canvas, please click the following link to request a sandbox: Link to Request a Canvas Sandbox
Moodle by eThink:
As part of the LMS Project, Sonoma State is also considering the feasibility of hosting Moodle remotely rather than continuing to self-host on campus. We have invited presentations and corresponded with the vendor eThink to provide this hosting solution. For more information, please visit: http://ethinkeducation.com/.
